le weekend

Haven't been feeling so great the past couple of days, but on Sunday, Lucy and I decided to get out for a little while. We noticed that the police were blocking one end of our street, so we headed the other way and ended up near Belleville.
I'm guessing there was some kind of Bolivian national holiday because there was a group of people dancing around with "Je t'aime Bolivi" signs.

After that we wander back home and the police still had our street blocked off and we could see a bunch of riot vans parked further down our street, so we went to check it out and found that over 10,000 people were marching past the bottom of our street in total slience as a protest for the Jewish guy who was beaten up, tortured and died when he was kidnapped for ransom money!

  • BBC news story here
  • if you haven't seen it already...

This is just behind the line of police in full riot gear who were following the protest to make sure it kept moving.

and behind them came the street cleaners. Once they had passed, you'd never know that 10,000 people had just walked down the street. Seeing the street cleaners in operation everyday I can say that they seem to carry out their job with a military precision. They know exactly where the water will flow from the drains and which ones it will flow back into, sweeping all the rubbish with it.
